Our Santa Marta is located in Botafogo in Rio de Janeiro. The story begins in 1930 in the dense forest. I

t was from 1942 that the first residents began to occupy, where we find today the UPP (Pacifying Police Unit). Santa Marta was the first pacified community in Rio.It stopped the armed trafficking and parallel power of the region.

At the top we find the church that holdsthe image of Santa Marta, which refers to the community's patron saint. She was brought to the favela by a resident early in its history.

With approximately 5.000 residents, the favela got international recognition in 1996, when Michael Jackson recorded the music video for "They Do not Care About Us". The visit led to a tourist spot in the community and a Michael statue facing the beautiful view of the city. It also was tv show and movie stage. Many famous people came by as Queen Elizabeth II, Madonna, Vin Diesel, Hugh Jackman, Bradley Cooper and Alicia Keys.

O nosso morro está localizado em Botafogo, no Rio de Janeiro. Sua história começa lá em 1930 com mata fechada. Foi a partir de 1942 que os primeiros moradores começaram a ocupar desde o topo até lá embaixo, é considerada uma das favelas mais íngremes do Rio. O Santa Marta foi a primeira comunidade do Rio a ser pacificada em 2008, acabando de vez com o tráfico armado e o poder paralelo da região.

É no topo também que a gente encontra com a igreja que guarda a imagem de Santa Marta, que faz referência à padroeira da comunidade, levada à favela por uma moradora no início de sua história.

Com uma média de 5.000 moradores, o morro ficou internacionalmente conhecido em 96 , quando Michael Jackson subiu pra gravar o videoclipe de “They Don’t Care About Us”. A visita deu origem a um ponto turístico na comunidade com uma super estátua de Michael e uma bela vista da cidade. Também já foi palco de novelas, seriados, filmes e muita gente famosa passou por aqui, como a Rainha Elizabeth II, Madonna, Vin Diesel, Hugh Jackman, Bradley Cooper, Cara Delavigne, Alicia Keys entre outros.
